Upcoming show ideas

Postby C4 » Sun Mar 14, 2010 6:41 pm

The last few shows (particularly 245 and 246) were, in my mind, awfully rigid in their execution.

Obviously there was a reason for this, there has been a deluge of gaming news, and when I listen back on the episodes, they sound a bit too much like a bullet list of things to talk about with limited time, with only the occasional breakout of "freeform discussion" (see the Wizardry/JRPG "press A to victory" discussion in 246).

EVERY podcast on the intertubes rehash the weekly news, and this bothers me greatly. We're not doing anything different, and I'd love to change that.

Ribo has mentioned a few cool ideas for themed shows, and I'm all for it. I'd also like to change the "regular show formula".

Any ideas? They don't have to be good, they just have to be.

Some things that have crossed my mind :
A show dedicated to an old game or series (that week everyone would play a Castlevania, or everyone plays Dragon Warrior IV)
A show dedicated to a certain genre (the best in dungeon crawling, FPS 101, JRPGS for Dummies)
Having the occasional "unscripted" show (no notes, or only one person has notes to help drive the random discussion)

Well we can't cut the news out entirely so even with the themed shows we can put the really big news stuff in there then move on to the theme of the show. Also. I am a HUGE fan of just talking games like we did on HHH. Old, new it doesn't matter.

I know other shows do the "What cha been playing" segment and I am not saying we should do that. Rather, just talk about the games that are on our mind at the time.

Yeah, I was thinking something more like, "what's on your mind" - it doesn't necessarily have to be a game you played, but a piece of news or something that came up this week (related to entertainment, of course) that you've got on your mind.

what topic i think would be great to hear is to hear you guys talk about games you want to see made.

This is a subject that has been pretty big for me lately. I keep looking for a good zombie apocolypse game but sadly none exsist.

how about random stories that come from off-line gaming related things you may get up to, doesn't have to be recent

I tested a little something for 247, the first half goes like a regular show (but heavy on the email), and the second half (just as Newfie left) was a bit of a test I wanted to try out.

Please let me know what you think.

I miss the 3 hour shows *sigh*.

I think it's time for an XNA games roundup! Top down list of the XNA titles you love.

I maed a show with zombies in it!

That's a great idea, except that almost all of them that I have played are crap :(

I'm holding my breath for Breath of Death VII though... it looks so awesome :)

What I'm aiming for (on the non-"themed" shows) is a more "organic" feeling to the show. I think we've identified the problems (no, it's not me talking too much) and hopefully will be able to make the shows a little better. King of like the second half of the last three hour show that we did (247?).

I am so getting that game! I totally enjoyed Soulcaster btw. It was nostalgic feeling down to the uber difficult to write down password game save.

I'll give the last really long ep another listen with show format in mind, and return with comments. I really enjoy when you guys get into a round table style debate. Kobar's cameo was the icing on the cake.

Time to finish reading the epic misdeeds of the dragonquesters.
